SUPPORT A STUDENT THROUGH THEIR MEDICAL EDUCATION
Annet | Kampala, Uganda
"As a Resident, DELTA, the Residents branch of AFEM, gives me opportunities to network with and share and compare notes with EM Residents across Africa."
"All I knew about the specialty was from online reading. Through the AFEM SUPADEL [support a delegate] program, I attended my First Emergency Medicine conference. Spending those few days in Addis Ababa with like-minded people, many of whom are now my teachers and mentors, was a tipping point."
Annet is now an emergency medicine registrar at the University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University, as well as a medical officer at the Mulago National Referral and Teaching Hospital. She was driven to pursue emergency medicine by the abundant maternal, newborn, child and trauma deaths resulting from the inadequacies in her country's health system. Annet believes emergency care is the medical specialty that Uganda needs to turn its health statistics around.
